From the To o l b o x tab of the Insertable Objects pane, drag and drop a Chart object
into the Chart tab.
The Insert Chart dialog box is displayed.

In the left pane, click Pie , Donut to select it.

In the right pane of the dialog box, select Pie with 3-D effects.
NOTE The dialog box has a check box for Fill with data . While this sounds as though it
might link the two data containers together, it will create a second query and add the data
items from the first query.

Click OK to close the dialog box.
Now we will add the data items to the query and data containers.

Click the Crosstab tab to show the crosstab container.

Using the Inventory (query) namespace, populate the crosstab data container by drag-
ging the following items from the Source tab of the Insertable Objects pane:
The Product line query item from the Products query subject to the rows
The Ye a r query item from the Time query subject to the columns
Quantity shipped from the Inventory fact query subject to the measures

Click on the Chart tab to show the chart data container.

Click the Chart data container to select it.

In the Properties pane, change the Query property to Query1 .

From the Data Items tab of the Insertable Objects pane, drag the following data items
to the chart container:
Product line to Series (pie slices)
Ye a r to Categories (pies)
Quantity shipped to Default measure

From the Run menu, select Run Active Report to test your report.
The Run menu changed for active reports. The only format for an active report is
HTML, and you are given the option to view the results or to receive a file download dia-
log to save the report locally. The results should be similar to Figure 6.3.

Click the Chart tab to see the results in a pie chart display similar to the one shown in
Figure 6.4.
Notice how the active tab has a different background from the inactive tab. This functional-
ity required some HTML programming in our Chapter 5 example. The functionality of tab navi-
gation is now built into this control.
