In-Depth Information
IBM Cognos Report Studio was designed so that developers can stack the queries in one
union to create a clean design that is easy to maintain or expand.
Here is our suggested approach to solving the described report problem by creating a union of
multiple queries.
Step 1: Start the Report
1.
Launch
Report Studio
and select the
GO Data Warehouse (query)
package.
2.
Click on the
Create new
option.
COGNOS 8 NOTE
The option is
Create a new report or template
.
3.
Select the
Chart
report template and click
OK
.
4.
Select the first default
Column
chart type and click
OK
.
We will be using the
Sales (query)
namespace inside the
Sales and Marketing (query)
.
Step 2: Set Up the Initial Report Queries
1.
In the
Explorer Bar
, mouse over the
Query Explorer
tab and select the
Queries
folder.
For this example, we will take the time to rename the queries in order to keep track of
what each query calculates.
2.
Rename
Query1
to
FinalQuery
.
3.
From the
To o l b o x
tab of the
Insertable Objects
pane, drag a
Union
object to the right
of the
FinalQuery
.
Yo u r Q u e r y E x p l o r e r d e s i g n w i n d o w will look similar to Figure 5.12.
