Integrating Multiple Queries into a Complex Report
One of the common assumptions that new report developers make is that everything needs to
exist in one query. Given that assumption, it is very difficult for them to mold the data into one
query design, which becomes worse as the reporting requirements include “massaging” the data
in different views. This additional data processing is necessary because it was not possible to
think of all the scenarios during the data modeling of the report package.
One of the most common problems our students bring up in class is grouping transaction
records based on some kind of date range and then summarizing the results into dashboard
presentations.
The following example will show you how to query the same data set multiple times, select
records according to the business rules, and summarize the new business logic groupings for the
dashboard presentation.
