Step 5: Add Prompts and Titles to the Report
The parameter names that you use in this step need to match the parameters used in the previous
report because the template is assuming that the parameters are the same. You may see an addi-
tional prompt page if the parameter names do not match.
1.
In the Explorer Bar , mouse over the Query Explorer
tab and select the
Training_by_Manager query.
2.
In the Detail Filters pane of the work area, double-click the filter for Ye a r .
3.
Replace 2007 with ?Selected Year? . The expression should look like this:
[Employee training (query)].[Time].[Year] = ?Selected Year?
NOTE The parameters you add here need to match the ones created in the first report.
This will allow us to quickly merge the reports together in the briefing book at the end of this
chapter.

Va l i d a t e t h e e x p r e s s i o n a n d c l i c k OK to close the Detail Filter Expression dialog box.
5.
When prompted, type 2007 for the year.
6.
Double-click the filter for Month .
7.
Replace 'April' with ?Selected Month? . The expression should look like this:
[Employee training (query)].[Time].[Month] = ?Selected Month?
8.
Click OK to close the Detail Filter Expression dialog box.
9.
Double-click the filter for Organization name .
10.
Replace 'Finance' with ?Selected Organization? . The expression should look like this:
[Organization name] = ?Selected Organization?
11.
Click OK to close the Detail Filter Expression dialog box.
12.
From the Run menu, select Run Report - HTML to test your report.
When prompted, select April , Finance , and 2007 . The report output should have num-
bers similar to those shown in Figure 3.22.
13.
Close IBM Cognos Viewer to return to your report design.
14.
Save the report as Training by Manager .
This report showed how templates can be used by report authors to reuse formatting across
reports. Like the global styles, the IBM Cognos BI administrator could add this template so that it
would appear in the new report dialog box for every user.
