There are more than 300 bird species, 38 bat varieties and one of the world's
largest flowers, the rare Rafflesia kerrii, which is found only here in Khao Sok.
Chiaw Lan , created in 1982 by an enormous shale-clay dam called
Ratchaprapha (Kheuan Ratchaprapha or Chiaw Lan), sits about an hour's drive
(65km) east of the visitors centre.
Tham Nam Thalu cave contains striking limestone formations and subterranean
streams, while Tham Si Ru features four converging passageways used as a
hideout by communist insurgents between 1975 and 1982.
