Surin & Similan Islands Don't Miss List
BY ORAYA (GAE) SENIWONG NA AYUTTHAYA, DIVE INSTRUCTOR, AT WICKED DIVING, KHAO LAK
1 NORTH POINT
The huge boulder formations at this dive site are majestic. The water is often
very blue and clear. The dive starts in a deep water area and finishes in a shal-
low reef where you commonly see turtles.
2 WEST OF EDEN
Another boulder site, West of Eden is a fun dive because you can drift along in
the current (saving your strength for other dives). The colours of the soft corals
and sea fans are an amazing collection of pinks and purples in the deeper part. It
is also less crowded than other spots in the park.
3 TACHAI PINNACLE
The northern part of this pinnacle dive is beloved because of its schools of fish
and soft corals. But the real deal is the challenge of the current. Diving here
taught me a lot about currents: how to read and predict them, and even though it
can be a bit of a struggle, it is always a truly fun dive.
4 RICHELIEU ROCK
Probably the most famous dive site in the Andaman Sea, Richelieu Rock has
lots of things to see, from soft corals to schools of fish. For soft-coral fans, Riche-
lieu Rock is their pick. The downside is its popularity; it can be very busy when
big live-aboard boats arrive.
