Hua Hin Don't Miss List
BY SIRANEE MEESITH, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT, TOUR DE ASIA BICYCLING TOURING & HUA HIN BIKE TOURS
1 HUA HIN BEACH
The city's long stretch of coastline starts south of the harbour at a rocky head-
land that inspired the town's name (Hua Hin means 'Stone Head'). From here
Hua Hin Beach ( Click here ) goes on for kilometres all the way to Khao Takiab,
which is adorned by a giant Buddha.
2 JEK PIA COFFEESHOP
Whenever people in Hua Hin don't feel like cooking, they can easily be encour-
aged to go to Jek Pia Coffeeshop ( Click here ). It is a simple open-air restaurant
serving breakfast and dinner. In the morning it is a culinary immersion; Thais like
to eat noodles and rice for breakfast (and lunch - and dinner). Jek Pia has the
usual morning noodle and rice dishes, including rice soups and stir-fried chicken
or pork over rice. No breakfast is complete without Thai-style coffee, which is
very sweet and strong. A Jek Pia breakfast is easily wrapped up with a walk on
Hua Hin Beach.
3 BAAN SILAPIN
Baan Silapin ( Click here ) is an art village that is always fun to visit on Saturdays
when they have a (mini) jazz band and art classes for kids. They also have
amazing paintings for sale, but you don't have to buy anything. It is nice just to
look around and then consider taking an art class after you've been inspired to
make your own masterpiece. Khun Nang leads art classes for adults on Tuesday
and Thursday, and children on Saturday.
