In-Depth Information
Chiang Rai Province has many beautiful natural and manmade attractions: the
hills and mountains, such as Doi Tung ( Click here ), which make up the borders
with Burma and Laos; the Mekong River, which flows past Chiang Saen ( Click
here ) and defines the northern edge of the province; and steeply sloped fields
growing coffee, tea and rice.
5 MAE SALONG
Mae Salong ( Click here ) is a small town nestled in the hills near the border with
Burma. It was settled by the Chinese Nationalist army after they were defeated
by the communists. Originally relying on opium production to fund the settled
army, Mae Salong is now a major tea producer and is also swathed in cherry
blossom trees.
