Th Nimmanhaemin Don't Miss List
BY PIM KEMASINGKI, MANAGING EDITOR, CITYLIFE CHIANG MAI
1 SHOPPING
I hardly ever shop outside Th Nimmanhaemin (Nimman) - what's the point?
Everything is here. The north end of the road has a smorgasbord of creative
boutiques: textiles, ceramics, pewter, fashion and accessories. Ginger ( Click
here ) oozes feminine funkiness - girlie accessories, adorable handbags and all
things bright and wonderful.
2 NIMMANHAEMIN ART & DESIGN PROMENADE
This four-day event is held around the weekend of 5 December (HM the King's
birthday). Soi 1 as well as other shopping areas are closed to traffic and open for
serious shopping and nonsensical fun. Stalls selling anything from novelty items
to home decor products, roadside bars, eating zones, live music, fashion shows,
street art and an overall festive vibe from around 11am to midnight.
3 DINING
Variety is the essence of Chiang Mai's dining scene. Café de Nimman ( 0
5321 8405; Rooms Boutique Mall, 61 Th Nimmanhaemin) has delicious Thai dishes
at great prices. Su Casa ( Click here ) is a charming little restaurant serving
tapas, sangria and delightful champagne cocktails. Yangze Jiang ( 0 5326
6550; Soi 5, Th Nimmanhaemin) prepares quintessential Chinese food in a very
smart setting.
