KANCHANABURI TO ERAWAN NATIONAL PARK
RAILROADS & RIVERS
Just a half-day journey from Bangkok, (1) Kanchanaburi offers a quick jungle es-
cape and attractions for WWII history buffs. Kanchanaburi was a base for a WWII
Japanese-run POW camp. The town today provides a respectful commemoration of
fallen Allied soldiers through several cemeteries and museums.
During WWII, the Japanese military used the labour of POW captives to build a
rail line to Burma, a task that resulted in thousands of deaths. Today trains travel
over surviving portions of the (2) Death Railway Line , mainly over the Mae Nam
Khwae.
