Wat Pho is also the national headquarters for the teaching and preservation of tradition-
al Thai medicine, including Thai massage , a mandate legislated by Rama III when the
tradition was in danger of extinction. The famous massage school has two massage pavil-
ions located within the temple area and additional rooms within the training facility outside
the temple ( click here ) .

6am-11pm; BTS Chit Lom) The Erawan Shrine was originally built in 1956 as
something of a last-ditch effort to end a string of misfortunes that occurred during
the construction of the hotel, at that time known as the Erawan Hotel.
Although the original Erawan Hotel was demolished in 1987, the shrine still ex-
ists, and today remains an important place of pilgrimage for Thais, particularly those
in need of some material assistance.
