Moscow. The hostel offers family-style units with private bathrooms and telephones, in
addition to singles and doubles with shared bathrooms. Run by an Indian-Russian team,
staff is English-speaking and accommodating. The hostel can arrange for visas and rea-
sonably priced airport transfers, a big plus in this price category. The main drawback of
G&R—like all Moscow hostels—is its distance from the center of town. G&R is almost
on top of a metro station (Ryazansky Prospekt), however, and the ride to the center takes
about 15 minutes. The surrounding neighborhood has markets, shops, and a few cheap
cafes. Prices include VAT and breakfast, and discounts are available.

NEAR THE AIRPORT
Domodedovo Aerohotel
As shiny and serviceable as the nearby Domodedovo
Airport, this hotel is in a forested industrial zone far away from the center of town. The
staff and a few customers in the brightly lit restaurant are the only things Russian about
the place. The newest of Moscow's slim airport hotel selection, it favors beige-toned
upholstery and chrome fixtures of good but not designer quality. Try for a room with a
tree view, not one facing the highway clogged with traffic during the long rush hours.
There's a convenient direct train into town, a 45-minute ride. One advantage of the
distance is that real estate is cheaper so rooms are more ample than downtown. Prices,
however, are still high.

Novotel
This French-Russian venture is the only decent hotel at Sheremetevo-2 Air-
port, and is the first landmark you see as you approach the airport by car. The drab gray
building matches the drab gray airport. However, the hotel's interior is much cleaner and
friendlier than the terminal nearby. There's little French about its style except for its
restaurant, which serves by far the best food within a several-mile radius. The hotel offers
free shuttle service downtown, but be prepared for long traffic jams anytime close to rush
hour. VAT is included in room rate.
