In-Depth Information
No bag storage. Most rental apartments don't have an area to store luggage once you check
out. You may have to store your stuff at a train station or another storage location if you want
to spend the rest of the day in the city.
WHERE TO FIND A VACATION APARTMENT RENTAL
Airbnb.com . Airbnb is my favorite rental website, and I've used it multiple times
throughout Europe. I've always had great success and the prices really can't be beat. Basically,
Airbnb is a service that connects travelers with locals who have spaces to rent. I've always op-
ted to rent the entire apartment, but there are options to rent an extra room or even just a
couch in someone's apartment if you're looking to save even more money.
The site is super easy to navigate and booking is super simple. Airbnb also sends their own
photographers to take pictures of many of the rental apartments so you know the apartment is
legit. Plus you pay for your stay through Airbnb and the money isn't taken from your account
until twenty-four hours after you check in. This is great because you don't have to worry about
getting ripped off. This would be my top choice if you want to look for an apartment.
“By Owner” rental services. These sites allow apartment owners to advertise their apart-
ment to travelers, so you deal directly with the owner. This option can be a bit risky because
you're dealing directly with the owner. However, a large majority are totally legit rental
apartments and owners are honest people. Just be sure to read the reviews of past guests.
If something doesn't feel right, move on. The most popular websites are VRBO.com ,
HomeAway.com and Flipkey.com .
Private rental agencies. There are many rental agency sites dedicated to apartment rent-
als—way too many to list here. Just search for “short-term apartment rental + your desired
city” and you'll find a ton of listings. I like to compare the prices of a few different sites because
each site will have different apartments for rent. Be sure to do a little research before sending
off your money.
Craigslist. Good ol' Craigslist. You'll find tons of people renting their apartments on
craigslist. Many of the offerings are posted by rental agencies, but you'll also find individuals
renting out their unoccupied apartments. Be very cautious of fraudulent postings, and never
send people money if something doesn't feel right. Just use your common sense. Honestly, I'd
skip Craigslist, but it's always an option.
