In-Depth Information
Purchase health and travel insurance. Your normal health insurance more than likely
won't cover you while abroad (check your plan) and don't assume that socialized medicine
will be cheap for you because it isn't. That's why travel insurance is a smart choice because
you'll still rack up huge medical bills if you need emergency care. And just like most things in
life, the more you pay, the better coverage you'll have. Read all the fine print of your policy so
you know exactly how much coverage you have. In addition to covering health-related issues,
some insurance plans will cover theft, damage of your electronics, trip delays and cancela-
tions, baggage delays, and car insurance.
There are dozens of travel insurance companies so you'll have to shop around and do some
research to find the right one for your trip.
Having important info at your fingertips can be a huge help.
Fill medical prescriptions. Stock up any medicine that you require before you leave be-
cause it could be tough to get what you need while in Europe. Technically pharmacists will
only fill a prescription written by a local doctor, but some might be willing to bend the rules
in certain cases. It will be most helpful if you make a copy of your prescriptions.
Break in your shoes. You're going to be walking a ton as you explore the streets of Europe,
so break in your shoes before leaving.
Understanding Travel Seasons
There is never a bad time to visit Europe and each season offers something to travelers. The
three travel seasons in Europe are high (summer), low (winter), and shoulder (spring and
fall). Each season has advantages and disadvantages, but you should choose when you go
based on your travel style.
