Smoothie Garden Solution
Write it down! When it comes to fertilizing your veggies, make sure
you keep records. Keep a journal or notebook and jot down when
you gave your plant fertilizer and how much was given. If you do
not write it down, you may forget some plants and fertilize others
too often.
Regularly fertilizing your plants and replenishing nutrients in your
soil help keep them healthier. This reduces the risk that your plants
will succumb to pests and diseases.
Make Your Own Compost or Manure Tea
You'll need a bucket or garbage can with a lid, hot animal manure
or compost, and water. Follow these steps to make your tea:
1.
Fill your bucket or garbage can one-third full with compost or manure
and then fill it the rest of the way with water.
2.
Mix well, cover, and let it sit at least overnight; letting it sit for a few
days can make it stronger.
3.
Put the tea directly around your plants or fill your watering can with
half tea and half water to dilute it. If you dilute your tea, strain the tea
with a piece of cheesecloth so you won't plug the nozzle on your water-
ing can. This mixture can also be used to spray your plant leaves to
deter pests.
4.
Keep refilling your bucket or garbage can with more water until the
water no longer turns dark brown. Once this happens, put the sludge
into your compost and make a new batch of tea with fresh manure or
compost.
