Chapter 4
The Care and Feeding of
Your Smoothie Garden
There are many aspects to vegetable gardening. First you have
to plan your garden, decide what you want to plant, and plant
the seed. Then comes caring for the seed so it will germinate.
And finally, you must keep your smoothie veggies happy all
season long. In this chapter you will learn about a number of
measures that can go a long way toward providing you with a
successful smoothie vegetable harvest.
Crop Rotation
Crop rotation is a process that is used to ensure you do not plant the
same vegetable or family of vegetables in the same spot in successive
years. By moving your vegetables to a new spot each year, you will
be able to keep the soil more fertile, reduce the amounts of pests and
diseases in your garden, and ultimately have a healthier and more
productive vegetable harvest. Crop or vegetable rotation may seem
complicated when you first learn about it, but it can be easy.
