QUICK TIPS FOR GROWING BASIL

Rich, well-drained soil, with some compost mixed in.

Best to be started indoors in early spring and transplanted
outdoors once the soil is warm, usually late May.

Keep weed free.
WATERING
Basil likes regular water, but not to excess. Watering every day is
fine in hot weather, but in normal weather every other day is
fine.
CARE Pinch off the plant's upper leaves to encourage bushiness. Avoid
letting the basil go to seed.
FERTILIZING Fertilize the soil about once a month with compost tea.
PESTS AND
DISEASES
Cutworms, aphid, and spider mites. To keep your soil fertile,
mulch to keep weeds down, water properly, and hand-pick if you
see the pests.

When the plant is at least 8 inches.

HARVEST
Snap off the leaves close to the stem.
STORAGE
Store in a plastic bag for several days, but whenever possible use
the fresh leaves in your green smoothie.
