Chapter 10
Plan for Next Season
Planning is one of the essential elements of a successful veget-
able garden. Knowing what worked and did not work will help
you to plan and avoid the same problems. Take time during the
year to document what happened. At the end of the season,
you can evaluate what worked well and what you would like to
do differently. Apply the questions in this chapter to your own
vegetable garden and your experiences.
Did You Choose a Good Garden Site?
Go over the questions you answered in Chapter 1 to start your
garden. Do you still agree with your reasons for starting a garden or
have they changed? What did you like about the site you picked?
What would you change about it? If the site did not work well, evalu-
ate different sites or different gardening methods. If you chose to
grow in your backyard but found you preferred to grow in containers,
maybe you can plan to use more containers next year. Were you sat-
isfied with all of your vegetables? Would you like to grow different
vegetables? More vegetables? Fewer vegetables?
