Indonesia. This should be anyone's first choice of hotel in Spokane if cost is no
object. In fact, the Davenport is reason enough to visit Spokane. Oh, and if you
fall in love with the hotel's soft peanut butter brittle, you can stock up at the
candy shop.

The Fotheringham House Located in the historic Browne's Addition
neighborhood, this pretty Queen Anne Victorian home, built in 1891 by the
first mayor of Spokane, is set behind a white picket fence and is surrounded by
a colorful perennial garden. Inside you'll find an abundance of ornate woodwork
and antique furniture. Most of the furnishings are period antiques, and in the
large shared bathroom you'll find the original claw-foot bathtub. Across the
street is a shady park and historic mansions line the streets of the neighborhood.

Hotel Lusso Until the recent reopening of the Davenport Hotel, across
the street, this was the most luxurious hotel in Spokane. Although far less osten-
tatious than the Davenport, the Lusso is nearly as luxurious. Affecting a sort of
contemporary Italianate styling, this boutique hotel has a very posh European feel.
Because the hotel was created from two existing buildings, the rooms here are all
a little bit different. Some of the standard rooms can be a bit small, but upgrades
are possible in $20 increments. We'd suggest opting to upgrade one or two lev-
els. Most of the rooms have 12- to 14-foot ceilings that make even the smallest
rooms feel big. For a splurge, there are the penthouse suites, which have deluxe
bathrooms with double whirlpool tubs surrounded by walls of glass. The hotel's
Fugazzi restaurant (see below) is one of Spokane's hippest and best restaurants.
There's also a separate lounge and a complimentary reception each afternoon.

Red Lion Hotel at the Park Although this is primarily a conven-
tion hotel, its location adjacent to downtown Spokane's Riverfront Park makes
this the most conveniently located hotel in the city if you're here on a family
vacation. In addition to the fun that can be had in Riverfront Park, the hotel
offers a resortlike, lagoon-style pool complete with water slide that kids love. A
wide variety of rooms accommodate all types of travelers, even those without
kids in tow, and anyone wishing a bit of extra luxury may want to opt for the
executive rooms, which come with balconies overlooking the pool or the river.
