Abendblume Inn This alpine chalet, complete with flower boxes
overflowing with blossoms, is a luxurious and romantic B&B overlooking Leav-
enworth, the valley, and the surrounding mountains. An eye for detail is appar-
ent throughout the inn, from the hand-carved front door to the wrought-iron
stair railing. Although there are a couple of smaller rooms, the large rooms with
balconies overlooking the valley are the rooms to book. In these you'll find fire-
places, VCRs, and wonderfully luxurious beds and linens, but it's the bathrooms
that are the real attractions. Our favorite has a triangular tub for two, a pair of
sinks, and heated marble floors. Nowhere in Leavenworth is there a more
romantic room. Buffet breakfasts include enough variety to keep everyone happy.
Guests also have use of both indoor and outdoor spas, and in winter, snowshoes
are available.

Blackbird Lodge Located right in downtown Leavenworth overlooking
the Icicle River, this hotel feels like a country inn despite the convenience of
being within walking distance of all the town's shops and restaurants. Though
the exterior is Bavarian chalet, this inn adopts something of a mountain-lodge
decor in its lobby, which has a slate floor and dark, woodsy touches. This moun-
tain-lodge styling alone sets the Blackbird apart from other moderately priced
lodgings in town. The guest rooms are large, but otherwise are fairly standard
motel-style rooms. However, the suites are both spacious and quite attractive;
some have fireplaces or whirlpool tubs or both. The lodge also rents out an adja-
cent renovated cottage.

Enzian Inn Located on the highway just outside downtown Leavenworth,
the Enzian, which is something of an upgraded motel, offers both convenience
and amenities. Of course, it has an alpine exterior (complete with half-timbering,
steep roofs, and turrets), and inside you'll find an attractive lobby with a high
ceiling and a stone fireplace. The guest rooms are decorated with reproduction
antique furniture imported from Austria. If you feel like splurging, the tower
suite is richly appointed with burgundy carpets, a heavy carved-wood canopy
bed, and a double whirlpool tub in the sitting room. Other amenities include a
racquetball court and complimentary use of cross-country ski equipment.

Run of the River Bed & Breakfast Tranquil, luxurious, rustic—
you just won't find a more idyllic B&B anywhere in Washington. This contem-
porary log house is set on 2 acres outside of town on a bend of the river. As
you drive past the alpine rock garden that lines the driveway, you can almost feel
life's stresses fall away. With its abundance of bare wood, hand-hewn log furni-
ture, and exposed stones, the inn has a timeless mountain-lodge feel. All the
