The Inn at Mt. Baker Located high on a hill at the end of a steep, 3,000-
foot-long gravel driveway (don't worry, the inn really is up there), this B&B is by
far the best place to stay along the Mt. Baker Highway. A head-on, jaw-dropping
view of Mount Baker is the inn's focal point and all five of the guest rooms have
mountain views, as does the Jacuzzi out on the patio. The inn is a large modern
home, and all the rooms are spacious and have superb beds and oversize soaking
tubs. Perhaps the only drawback here is that the hill leading up to the inn was
fairly recently clear cut. However, if not for the clear cut, there wouldn't be such
a great view of Mount Baker.

ALONG THE NORTH CASCADES SCENIC HIGHWAY
Ross Lake Resort Although this is primarily a fishing resort, the fact
that all the rooms are in floating cabins makes it unusual enough that even non-
anglers might enjoy a stay here. Most of the cabins are small and rustic, but there
are two large cabins with vaulted ceilings and modern amenities. If you're look-
ing to get away from it all, this is the place—there's not even a road to the resort.
To reach the resort, you must first drive to Diablo Dam on Wash. 20, then take
a ferry to the end of the lake where a truck carries you around Ross Dam to a
boat landing where a speedboat from the lodge picks you up. Alternatively, you
can hike in on a 2-mile trail from milepost 134 on Wash. 20. There's no grocery
store or restaurant here, so be sure to bring enough food for your stay. What do
you do once you get here? Rent a boat and go fishing, rent a kayak or canoe and
go paddling, do some hiking, or simply sit and relax.

Skagit River Resort/Clark's Cabins The first thing you notice when you
arrive at this casual cabin resort is the rabbits. They're everywhere—hundreds of
them in all shapes and sizes, contentedly munching the lawns or just sitting qui-
etly. Although the bunnies are one of the main attractions here, it's the theme
cabins that keep people coming back. Western, nautical, Victorian, Native
American, Adirondack, and hacienda are among the choices of interior decor in
these cabins. There are other cabins that are equally comfortable, but the theme
cabins are what make this place just a bit different. These cabins are especially
popular in winter when folks flock to the area to watch the bald eagles that con-
gregate on the Skagit River. There is also a bed-and-breakfast lodge here.
