MacKaye Harbor Inn This former sea captain's home was originally built in
1904 and was the first home on the island to have electric lights. Since that time
this old house has gone through many incarnations, and is today a very comfort-
able B&B with a mix of classic country styling and plenty of modern creature
comforts. Located down at the south end of the island, the big white farmhouse
is set on a pretty little stretch of flat beach. There's a tea cottage out in the garden,
and massages, as well as afternoon tea, can be taken in this sunny little building.
With kayaks for rent and the calm water of MacKaye Harbor right across the road,
this is a good place to give sea kayaking a try. There are also bikes available for
guests and the innkeepers can direct you to good hikes in the area. The inn also
rents two beautiful Cape Cod-style apartments in an adjacent carriage house.
