The Kingfish Inn Housed in the old West Sound general store, this
inn is about as quaint as they come. Downstairs, the old general store has been
converted into a cozy little cafe, while upstairs, there are three rooms with views
over West Sound. These views are among the best on the island. The fourth
room is just off the cafe's deck. However, the upstairs rooms are much more
attractively furnished, with a sort of Tuscan feel, and you should try to get one
of them. These rooms have rustic armoires and beautiful beds with fluffy duvets.
One of the rooms has a woodstove and one has a picture-perfect porch. Bath-
rooms, however, are very basic and have showers only.

Orcas Hotel Located right at the Orcas ferry landing, this B&B is a good
choice for anyone coming over without a car. On the other hand, the proximity
of the ferry precludes the tranquil setting available at other island B&Bs.
Nonetheless, the Orcas is an attractive old Victorian hotel and has been wel-
coming guests since 1904. The guest rooms, done in a simple country style, vary
in size, but all are carpeted and furnished with antiques. A couple of the rooms
have whirlpool tubs with stained-glass windows above them. On the first floor
of this three-story building you'll find a lounge, bakery/cafe, and a good restau-
rant, which together can meet all your dining needs should you be using this
hotel as a base for a car-free vacation here on Orcas.

beach resort. If you enjoy roughing it, there are hike-in or paddle-in sites at
Obstruction Pass State Park at the south end of the east arm of the island
(near Olga). Keep in mind that there is no water available at this isolated and
beautifully situated park.
