The Inn at Ship Bay Set on a high bluff just outside the village of East-
sound, this inn boasts a tranquil setting and rooms that are both luxurious and
very comfortable. Pillow-top king beds and gas fireplaces make it easy to spend
way too much of your visit just cozying up in the rooms here. And, if you sit
back in the Adirondack chairs on your balcony and gaze out over the water, you
may never leave. Although guest rooms are in modern buildings that have been
designed to look old, the centerpiece of the inn is an 1869 home that now serves
as the inn's restaurant.

The Inn on Orcas Island Looking as if it were transplanted directly
from Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard, this inn blends traditional styling with
contemporary lines to create a classically inspired beauty. Situated on a meadow
overlooking a marsh just off Deer Harbor, the inn has rooms in the main house
plus a cottage and a carriage house that has its own kitchen. Rooms can best be
described as Martha Stewart meets Eddie Bauer—a blend of feminine and mas-
culine styling. There are rooms with balconies and suites with jetted tubs, and
all the accommodations have water views. A sun room in the main house is a
wonderful place to while away the morning.

The Resort at Deer Harbor Set on an open hillside above the spectac-
ular Deer Harbor inlet, this casual resort looks across the water to a forested cliff
and offers the best views on the island. Add to this a few small islands at the
mouth of the inlet and a marina with sailboats bobbing at anchor, and you have
the quintessential island setting. Each of the 26 cottages has a hot tub on its
porch; of these, 11 are particularly luxurious accommodations that have fire-
places, separate seating areas, and double whirlpool tubs in the bathrooms. The
Starfish Grill, the resort's casual and moderately priced bistro, is one of the best
restaurants in the San Juans.
