Adrift INTERNATIONAL This restaurant could be a glimpse of things to
come for downtown Anacortes. With its dark interior and urban vibe it is defi-
nitely an unexpected treat in this retirement community. The menu is highly
eclectic and leans toward organic ingredients and Asian and Mediterranean
influences. The white bean chicken chili is a real winner, but then most dishes
here are. At lunch, try the smoked seafood plate. At dinner, try the crab cakes
with spicy ginger-garlic sauce or the seared scallops with citrus butter. Feeling
adventurous? Order a side of coconut-milk mashed sweet potatoes.

MC, V. Tues-Sat 11am-9pm.
Gere-a-Deli DELI Many places claim to be New York-style delis, but this
is the only one in the Northwest that comes close to duplicating the genuine feel
of a deli in Manhattan. Big and bustling, Gere-a-Deli is the place for lunch in
Anacortes, and while the sandwiches may not be as good as those in the Big
Apple, the urban feel, vintage signs, huge windows, and lively chatter of con-
versation all add up to a classic deli experience. Note that dinners are only served
on Friday night.
