In-Depth Information
Getting There: An antique tram car (line #1) scenically rattles its way from the
Ribeira district, along the Douro River, to the Jardim do Passeio Alegre, a 10-minute walk
to the center of the Foz district. From the tram stop, you can walk or catch bus #500
to Foz's center. Or bypass the tram by taking bus #500 from the Ribeira directly to Foz
(catch tram or bus in front of São Francisco Church, departures roughly every 20 minutes
9:00-19:00, 20-minute trip). Tram #1 used to go all the way to Foz; it's possible this route
will be reinstated, so check with the TI or transit office.
Nearby: You can combine a trip to Foz with a visit to the Serralves Museum. From
Foz, either catch bus #203—it runs near the beach on Rua de Dui—or take a taxi; it's easy
to hail a cab or find a taxi stop (praça de taxis).
Near Praça Infante Dom Henrique
These sights are on or near Praça Infante Dom Henrique (Henry the Navigator Square), a
long block uphill from the Ribeira district.
São Francisco Church —This is Porto's only church in the Gothic style—complete
with a rose window, stair-step buttresses, and a statue of St. Francis of Assisi on the
front. Today, it's a museum with three parts: a one-room collection of art from the church
