In-Depth Information
Need a break from fish? Agua Na Boca (“Mouth Watering”), a sophisticated and
atmospheric eatery run by Paulo and his wife-and-chef Irene, serves up-market local
cuisine. It's always busy, so reserve ahead (about €60 for three-course meal for 2 people,
includes wine; extensive wine list, closed Sun, on Rua dos Pescadores next to A Aventura
Bar, tel. 282-695-651). The pepper steak is excellent, as is everything else Paulo serves.
Corsario's, a simple restaurant next door to Hotel Residencial Salema, provides a
hearty cooked English breakfast for €7 that's really a brunch. You'll be served by Pedro
Alfonso, a Portuguese motorcycle-racing champion, and his friendly mom, Rosa, who
is proud of her homemade desserts. Ask Rosa to show you their collection of signed
soccer players' shirts upstairs (daily 8:00 until late, snacks available all day, mobile
918-213-795).
Picnics: Romeu's Salema Market has all the fixings for a great picnic to take with
you to a secluded beach or Cape Sagres. Look for fresh fruits, veggies, bread, sheep's
cheese, sausage, and vinho verde (young white wine, a Portuguese specialty with a re-
freshing taste). Helpful Romeu also changes money and gives travel and quarto ad-
vice (daily July-Sept 9:00-20:00, Oct-June 9:00-13:00 & 15:00-19:00, on Rua dos Pes-
cadores).
For drivers: Drivers who want a classy meal outside of town should consider the el-
egant VilaVelhaRestaurante in Sagres or the more rustic CastelejoRestaurante at the
surreal Praia do Castelejo (both described later).
