More Light Choices

PatiodeSintraCafeteria is a practical lunch stop just a block off Rua das Padarias (Rua
Arco do Teixeira 15).
Café da Villa, a favorite of bus drivers and tour guides, is good for a quiet, cheap
lunch in a homey pub-like setting (€8 fixed-price meals, open daily, generous portions of
homemade-style soups and salads, down the road past horse-drawn carriages at Calçada
do Pelourinho 2).
Pizza Hut, at the train station, has a salad bar and to-go boxes for a cheap, healthy
meal to munch in the Pena Palace Park, on the grounds of the Moorish Castle, or on the
train ride back to Lisbon.
Dining
(See “Central Sintra” map, here .)
While there are plenty of tourist eateries in Sintra's old center, I'd head a couple of blocks
away to the station area for a serious meal.
Restaurante Regional de Sintra, which feeds locals and tourists very well, is my fa-
vorite place for dinner in Sintra. Gentle Paulo speaks English and serves huge, splittable
portions (€15 doses, daily 12:00-16:00 & 19:00-22:30, 200 yards from train station at
Travessa do Municipio 2; exit train station left, go downhill to the first square and to the
far right corner; tel. 219-234-444).
Apeadeiro Restaurante, named for the platform along the track at the train station
just a block away, is a quality eatery serving good food for a good price. Their daily spe-
cials can be split, allowing two to eat for €15 (closed Thu, Avenida Dr. Miguel Bombarda
3, tel. 219-231-804).
Restaurante Chinês Da Fu Lou, across the street from the train station, serves
decent Chinese food at a good price, offering an alternative to bacalhau and sandwiches
(€5-10 entrees, daily 11:00-15:00 & 17:00-23:00, Avenida Dr. Miguel Bombarda 53, tel.
219-242-653).
