By Bus
Bus tickets to Spain are sold by InterCentro Lines in Lisbon, but the service is run by
Alsa ( www.alsa.es ) . All buses leave from Lisbon's Sete Rios bus station (Metro: Jardim
Zoológico, tel. 707-223-344).
From Lisbon by Bus to: Coimbra (hourly, 2.5 hours, €14), Nazaré (6/day, 2 hours,
€11), Fátima (hourly, 1.5-2.5 hours, €11.50), Batalha (4/day, 2 hours, €11.50), Alcobaça
(6/day, 2 hours, some transfer in Caldas da Rainha, €11.20), Óbidos (8/day, 1.25 hours,
transfer in Caldas da Rainha), Porto (almost hourly, 3 hours), Évora (almost hourly, 1.5
hours, €13), Lagos (10/day, 4 hours, some transfer in Albufeira, €20, easier than train,
must book ahead, get details at TI), Tavira (9/day direct, 4.25 hours, €19.50), Madrid (2/
day, 8-9 hours, €47.50, www.avanzabus.com ) , Sevilla (2/day, 7 hours, may be less off-
season, €37; you can also get to Sevilla by taking the overnight train to Madrid, then the
hourly AVE train, but the bus is your better, faster, and cheaper option).
By Plane
You can generally buy a plane ticket from Lisbon to Madrid on short notice for as little
as €30 or as much as €300, depending on the time of the year. Shop around to get the
best deal. Vueling ( www.vueling.com ) and EasyJet ( www.easyjet.com ) usually have the
cheapest flights, but specials by Iberia ( www.iberia.com ) can sometimes beat their prices.
