source choices for the systems, Figure 12.3 shows the Uniquac binary parameters
for the three systems, and Figure 12.4 shows a plot of the ethylbenzene-styrene
vapor-liquid equilibrium and hand calculations indicate relative volatilities between
1.2 and 1.4. The other two systems exhibit mutual solubility in a very narrow range of
composition, and because of this, only liquid-liquid equilibrium is available. These
values should be suitable for use in the distillation calculations.
12.5 RIGOROUS FLASH AND DECANTER
A more rigorous version of the process may be found at Examples/ExampleTwelve-2.
A two-phase flash and a decanter block were placed onto the flowsheet replacing the
splitters at G and H, using the properties from above. Several exploratory runs were
made, with the following results. With the two-phase flash at G at 50
◦
C, the water in
the process was pushed out at product stream 9, along with the hydrogen. Subsequently,
the flash temperature was changed to 15
◦
C.
