Graphics Programs Reference
In-Depth Information
We've also rendered the model, as shown in Figure 8.73. The results are quite interesting,
and you'll still have the ability to modify the underlying parametric family and then re-host the
faces. You'll also be able to schedule the volume, surface, and floor area of the mass.

generic massing
project
You can download and further investigate the files that were used to create this
exercise in the Chapter 8 folder of the topic's companion website. Download the project ile
c08_Parametric_Generic_Massing_Finish.rvt, which contains the in-place massing and the
loaded generic element.
Now let's begin to investigate how to create parametric massing in the Family Editor using
the conventional massing tools.
Design by Visual Programming
A new trend in design methodology is becoming more popular—the use of visual programming
tools to generate complex forms. We are not talking about parametric design as an aesthetic
philosophy, rather the tools employed to achieve the results. The term “visual programming”
simply refers to the use of a graphic Ui to drive code-based scripting that will generate complex
geometrical forms. one new tool that has been developed to work with revit software is called
dynamo—an open source software project in which developers and designers can participate
and contribute freely. The website dynamobim.org has learning material, free downloads, and a
discussion forum.
