Geology Reference
In-Depth Information
In this part . . .
Geology begins with rocks. But rocks themselves do not spontaneously appear; they
form over time from the combination of elements into minerals and exposure to differ-
ent levels of heat and pressure.
This part lays the foundation for understanding how all the different materials on earth
interact. The relationships between atoms of elements — their determination to stick to-
gether (forming rocks) or the way they break apart — drives the forces described later
in the topic. Part II is possibly the most important part in this topic; I can almost guaran-
tee that you'll find yourself turning back to these pages in reference as you move for-
ward in your geologic study.
