Today, it is fashionable to strip off these old ceilings and fit a simple plasterboard ceiling
between the joists, thus restoring the 'beamed' effect yet retaining both the privacy and in-
sulation afforded by the ceiling. Figure 8.4 illustrates a typical construction.
