In-Depth Information
Further, the late 1990s witnessed a new
surge of interest from foreign investors fuelling
a hotel construction boom (Behringer and Kiss,
2004).
Considerable imbalances can be observed
when comparing visitor origins in terms of num-
bers of international arrivals and overnights
spent by foreign visitors in Hungary (Figs 10.1
and 10.2).
Whereas arrivals figures are dominated by
visitors from neighbouring countries, with the
exception of Germany and Austria, the number
of overnights spent in commercial accommoda-
tion establishments is led by Germany, with no
neighbouring country source falling within the
top ten.
There are specific reasons to explain this.
