SNS for scientists 2 .

myExperiment: an SNS for the Service-Oriented Science
myExperiment is a social Web site sharing scientific workflows and
research objects that are closely related to them [206,207]. The project
is directed by Professor David De Roure at the University of Oxford
and Professor Carole Goble at the University of Manchester. The
Web site was launched in 2007 and as of September, 2011 it had
over 3000 members, 200 groups, 1000 workflows (from various
workflow systems, mostly notably Taverna), 300 files, and 100 packs.
myExperiment has a Representational State Transfer (REST) application
programming interface (API) to access its publicly available dataset.
myExperiment can be considered as a Facebook of scientists .
Instead of sharing status, news, and photos with friends, myExperiment
2 Some online services included in this figure, for example, Amazon EC2, Globus Online,
Galaxy, and caGrid, are arguably SNSs by themselves. However, we still list them here
because they all provide an opencollaborative environment that is very close to an SNS and
can rapidly evolve toward that direction.
