to the date of the international registration, in use in a Contracting Party by a
third party as a generic term, Art 17 permits a Contracting Party to grant to the
third party a defined period to phase out such use.
(k) Notification of grant of protection
Article 18 provides that the Competent Authority of a Contracting Party may
notify the International Bureau of the grant of protection to an appellation of
origin or a GI registered under this Act, which the International Bureau is
required to record in the International Register and publish.

(l) Invalidation
Article 19(1) prevents a Contracting Party from invalidating the effects of an
international registration, in part or in whole, in its territory 'without giving an
opportunity to the concerned beneficiaries or legal entity having legal standing
to assert these rights, as referred to in Article 5(2)(ii)' to make representations.

Article 19(2) provides that invalidation may be pronounced by a Contracting
Party on the basis of a prior right, as referred to in Art 13. Article 19(3) requires
each Contracting Party to notify the International Bureau of the invalidation of
an international registration and the International Bureau shall record the
invalidation in the International Register and publish it.

Article 19(4) provides that invalidation shall not be detrimental to any other
protection that may be available in the Contracting Party that invalidated the
effects of the international registration.

Following its seventh session the Working Group recommended that the
Lisbon Union Assembly approve at its 2013 session the convening of a
diplomatic conference for the adoption of a Revised Lisbon Agreement on
Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications in 2015. Ahead of a
diplomatic conference two further Working Group sessions were scheduled for
December 2013 and another for the first half of 2014, which might be followed
by an additional session of the Working Group in the second half of 2014 if
necessary.
