implementing acts, without applying the procedure referred to in Art 57(2),
registering the name.
(c) Determination of application for opposition
Article 52(3) provides that if the Commission receives an admissible reasoned
statement of opposition, it shall, following the appropriate consultations
referred to in Art 51(3), and taking into account the results thereof, either:

(a) if an agreement has been reached, register the name by means of implementing acts
adopted without applying the procedure referred to in Art 57(2), and, if necessary,
amend the information published pursuant to Art 50(2) provided such amend-
ments are not substantial; or
(b) if an agreement has not been reached, adopt implementing acts deciding on the
registration. Those implementing acts shall be adopted in accordance with the
examination procedure referred to in Art 57(2).
(d) Publication
Article 52(4) provides that acts of registration and decisions on rejection shall
be published in the Official Journal of the European Union .

28. Scientific Committee
Under the legislation which preceded the Regulation the Commission could be
assisted by the Standing Committee on Protected Geographical Indications
and Protected Designations of Origin. Commission Decision of 20 December
2006 157 provided for the establishment of a scientific group of experts to assist
the Commission on its evaluations of applications for designations of origin,
GIs and TSGs.

The precursor Scientific Committee was established by Commission Decision
93/53/EEC of 21 December 1992 158 to assist the Commission in the field of
designations of origin, GIs and certificates of specific character. At the request
of the Commission, the Scientific Committee examined all technical problems
involved in the registration of names of agricultural products and foodstuffs and
any disputes between the Member States, in particular:
