accordance with Art 56, concerning further details of the eligibility criteria laid
down in this Article.
9. Product specification
(a) Content of specification
Article 19(1) provides that a TSG shall comply with a specification which shall
comprise:

(a) the name proposed for registration, in the appropriate language versions;
(b) a description of the product including its main physical, chemical, microbiological
or organoleptic characteristics, showing the product's specific character;
(c) a description of the production method that the producers must follow, including,
where appropriate, the nature and characteristics of the raw materials or ingredients
used, and the method by which the product is prepared; and
(d) the key elements establishing the product's traditional character.
Article 19(2) provides that in order to ensure that product specifications
provide relevant and succinct information, the Commission shall be empow-
ered to adopt delegated acts, in accordance with Art 56, laying down rules
which limit the information contained in the specification referred to in
paragraph 1 of this Article, where such a limitation is necessary to avoid
excessively voluminous applications for registration. Subsequently, Art 3 of the
Draft Delegated Regulation provides that the product specification referred to
in Art 19 'shall be concise and shall not exceed 5000 words, except in duly
justified cases'.

The Commission may adopt implementing acts laying down rules on the form
of the specification. Those implementing acts shall be adopted in accordance
with the examination procedure referred to in Art 57(2).

10. Verification of compliance with product specification
Article 37(1) provides that in respect of TSGs that designate products originat-
ing within the Union, verification of compliance with the product specification,
before placing the product on the market, shall be carried out by:

(a) one or more of the competent authorities as referred to in Art 36 of this Regulation;
and/or
(b) one or more of the control bodies within the meaning of point (5) of Art 2 of
Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 operating as a product certification body.
