In-Depth Information
Actual values and criteria are evaluated using these methods to assess
in terms of structural integrity. In this sense, the ISI with its specific
criteria and performance is in addition to NDT, executed in the period of
manufacture.
A specific criterion is the experience with ISI and received data, which
will form a strong feedback with the majority of positions of the element
B . In this context, it is important to considered unforeseen events affecting
the structural integrity and also how can they be taken into account. For
example, by considering the worst defect situations or the choice of specific
additional areas of the ISI.
Element A is regarded as the actual method of non-destructive testing.
Element B (Fig. 7.4) shows performance of non-destructive testing for
a specific area and indicates a number of reasons.
Non-destructive testing uses criteria that are not only simple but as
informative as possible. When these criteria are considered as indications
in NDT (in terms of ultrasound inspection), then this indication in most
cases is the signal amplitude translated into time corrected again. Another
example of indications is the dynamics of the sound path, etc. In this sense,
the actual size determined by the appropriate method of measurement can
also serve as an indicator. Indications used in eddy-current testing include
