including the physical features of NDT methods and materials in which
the defect is situated, the defect type, the characteristics of tools and
inspection techniques, the environment and inspection conditions, individual
characteristics of NDT inspectors.
Despite numerous studies into the causes of insufficient reliability of
quality inspection carried out both in Russia and abroad, only qualitative
or semiquantitative description of the effect of various factors in reducing
the reliability of inspection can be provided at the present time.
There are various classifications of factors affecting the reliability of
inspection. V.G. Shcherbinsky and N.P. Aleshin 84 attribute the insufficient
reliability of inspection to the errors of inspection, including: systematic,
random, and misses.
