Wyandotte
When it comes to something to eat, Dorkings take much longer to grow than White
Rocks or any other breeds, but between 16 and 20 weeks of age you can harvest a large,
full-bodied, tender, strong-boned chicken that provides a very tasty meal. In this length
of time, the bird has put on some fat inside the meat that provides a great deal of flavor.
Any color variety of Rocks, Wyandottes, Jersey Giants, Dorkings, Orpingtons, Rhode
Island Reds, New Hampshire Reds, and Buckeyes all produce in a reasonable length of
time — between 16 and 18 weeks — a desirable carcass. These birds are not broad-
breasted, but they offer up a respectable amount of tasty and flavorful meat, a reasonable
portion of which is white.
