factors in determining how effectively the potential crowd can interact with the
parametric schema.
The structure of the schema is important in making sense of the relationships of
the components of the schema. This is critical for a collaborative environment in
which people are communicating and suggesting changes and modifications of
specific designs including versioning, iteration, mass-customization and differenti-
ation (Schumacher 2009 ; Jabi 2013 ) . Parametric schema can be manipulated when
new contextual conditions and properties are considered to create a new version.
The term iteration refers to a design system that provides feedback at any iterative
phase creating multiple versions in relations to different sets of desired parameters.
This, in effect, is what occurs in a process of crowd-sourced design. Finally, mass-
customization supports the creation of customized prototypes by uniquely and
easily changing the parameters of each individual element.
14.4 Parametric Crowdsourcing in a “Social-Motive”
Model of Design
In the following section we illustrate an attempt to characterize a “social motive
session” demonstrating the role of a Parametric Crowdsourcing Design Schema as a
shared representational medium that can support social communication in the three
phases of design. We demonstrate the potential of a virtual visualization environ-
ment to support crowdsourcing parametric design illustrating how the generic
