Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama

Kamo-gawa
There's a river running through Kyoto and it's a great place to bring the kids for an after-
noon picnic. On hot days they can wade in the river while you relax on the banks. The
area around Demachiyanagi is one of the most popular spots for parents and children to
play.
Kyoto Imperial Palace Park
The Central Park of Kyoto ( CLICK HERE ), this sprawling expanse of fields, trails, ponds
and woods is a great place for a picnic, walk or bicycle ride with the kids.
Kyoto City Zoo
This small zoo ( CLICK HERE ) is far from world-class, but it is quite convenient to the other
sights of Northern Higashiyama so you can easily combine it with a trip to the temples,
shrines and museums nearby.
Umekōji Steam Locomotive Museum
With 18 vintage steam locomotives, one of which you can ride, this museum is a must for

Shinkyōgoku Shopping Arcade
This is where the Japanese kids from across the country come on their school excursions
(after they've seen the obligatory temples). If it's tacky, cheap and gaudy, you'll find it
