A short walk north
of Kyoto Station's Karasuma central gate, this friendly ryokan has a loyal following of
foreign guests, and for good reason: it's clean, well run and fun. Rooms are standard ry-
okan style with one difference: all have attached bathrooms and toilets. Bicycle rental is
available.

K's House is a large 'New Zealand-style'
guesthouse with both private and dorm rooms. The rooms are simple but adequate and
there are spacious common areas. The roof-top terrace, patio and attached bar-restaurant
make this a very sociable spot and a good place to meet other travellers and share inform-
ation.

A short walk from Kyoto Sta-
tion, this newly renovated ryokan has clean, well-kept rooms and a management that is
used to foreign guests. Some rooms on the 1st floor look out on small gardens. Matsubaya
also has several serviced apartments in its adjoining Bamboo House section - these would
be great for anyone planning a longer stay in the city. Western (¥500 to ¥800) or Japanese
breakfast (¥1000) is available.

This excellent business hotel is a good midpriced choice. Rooms
are on the large size, with firm, clean beds and unit baths. The staff are professional and
