SLEEPING IN MIYAMA-CHŌ
There are several interesting places in which to stay in the Miyama-chō area. It's best if have a Japanese-speak-
ing person call to make reservations as few lodge-owners speak English. Some owners will pick up guests in
Hirogawara.
» Matabe ( またべ ; 77-0258; Nantan-shi, Miyama-chō, Kita; per person incl 2 meals ¥8500) This quaint
minshuku (Japanese-style B&B) in Kitamura is in a traditional thatched-roof house.
» Miyama Heimat Youth Hostel ( 美山ハイマートユースホステル ; /fax 75-0997; Miyama-chō, Obu-
chi, Nakasai 57; members/nonmembers ¥3350/3950, breakfast/dinner ¥700/1200) One of the cheaper options in
the area, this simple youth hostel is in a thatched-roof house on the road to Ōno Dam.
» Yama-no-Ie ( 芦生山の家 ; 77-0290; Nantan-shi, Miyama-chō, Ashiu; per person incl 2 meals ¥7350)
The only place to stay in Ashiu - other than camping - is in this impressive lodge. It's a few minutes by foot
