titers in GBS are thought to be a result of the production of antibodies
to a bacterial carbohydrate-containing surface antigen that cross-reacts
with the myelin sheath, axons of nerve cells or non-ganglioside compo-
nents, but not clear in CIDP, resulting in demyelination and axonal
degeneration.
Analysis of the mimic structures of these crucial proteins (antigens)
should be helpful in understanding the induction of the anti-ganglioside
and anti-nonganglioside immune response that leads to GBS and related
autoimmune neuropathies, CIDP.
