In-Depth Information
March
March brings a hint of autumn, and it's harvest time in the vineyards of Marlborough
and orchards of Central Otago. Expect long dusky evenings and plenty of festivals
plumping out the calendar.
Wildfoods Festival
Eat worms, hare testicles or crabs at Hokitika's comfort-zone-challenging food fest
( www.wildfoods.co.nz ) . Not for the mild-mannered or weak-stomached… But even if you
are, it's still fun to watch! There are plenty of fine quality NZ brews to help subdue any dif-
ficult tastes.
Ellerslie Flower Show
Christchurch's glorious Hagley Park is made even more spectacular by the lovingly crafted
introduction of beautiful gardens ( www.ellerslieflowershow.co.nz ). Don't come expecting a
haven for fuddy-duddy gardeners, as many of the colourful, floral additions are also bold,
modern and innovative.
Gibbston Wine & Food Festival
Head to the Queenstown Gardens in mid-March to try wines and produce from the rugged
and meandering river valley to the east of Queenstown. Look forward to award-winning
wines from 10 vineyards, local cheese and chocolate, and cooking masterclasses from cel-
ebrated NZ chefs ( www.gibbstonwineandfood.co.nz ).
