only 3 km 2 . Area wise, mangrove cover in ANI ranks third in the country after West
Bengal and Gujarat, but as far as density and growth are concerned mangroves in
the ANI are perhaps the best in the country (Fig. 2.3 ). It is evident by the fact that
approximately 89 % of the mangrove cover in ANI falls under the category of either
very dense mangroves (with more than 70 % canopy density) or moderately dense
