In the future, strain imaging can be extended into 3D ultrasound, because
2D ultrasound can only obtain one cross-section of a tumor and the tumor may
slip when the compression force is slanted. However, 3D ultrasound can scan the
entire tumor, and its probe is wider. The above drawbacks of 2D ultrasound could
thereby be avoided. Hence, the strain imaging technique must be improved for
application in 3D ultrasound.
