breast lesions more efficiently. Figure 2 depicts a typical automatic image acqui-
sition system.
3.2. 2D Ultrasound Strain Data Acquisition
In this Section we first introduce the acquisition of 2D ultrasound image data.
A Voluson 530 (Kretz Technik, Austria) scanner is used in our proposed CAD sys-
tem, which allows recording 15 continuous 2D images at per second. Compression
is completed within 4 seconds, and 60 images are obtained, which we denote I s ,
where s = 0-59. Figure 3 illustrates the process of physician compression of a
tumor. Because the time for data acquisition is very short, the neighboring images
are very similar and variation in elasticity very small. Hence, only one of eight
neighboring images is used in our proposed CAD system, and 8 images in total of
